basysKom's philosophy is to combine the creativity of open source with the world of industrial production. basysKom supports the open source movement by promoting development in a variety of projects, while also ensuring staff development and training. As a company, basysKom harnesses this creative competence for industry by being committed to strategic project management, clear quality standards, and absolute reliability. The open source community, whose objectives we support, benefits from the success of our work.

Commitment to open source

We are an active member of the open source community and highly networked in the developer community. For example, basysKom managing director Dr.-Ing. Eva Brucherseifer was President of the German KDE Community (KDE e.V.) for a number of years. We are involved in many open software development projects – several initiated by basysKom, and others sponsored by us. basysKom regularly acts as a sponsor at open source community conferences such as Desktop Summit, aKademy, Qt Developer Days, amongst others. Furthermore, basysKom contributes development time to Plasma Active and more open source solutions.

We demand clear rules – NDAs, budget agreements, project plans, and analysis of target achievement. However, rules at basysKom are not an end in themselves, but are established to ensure products are marketable in less time and to guarantee the utmost safety of everyone involved in development

Tasks at basysKom are usually carried out in small teams of 3-8 people who are coordinated by an experienced project manager. The skills in these development teams are well balanced and tailored to the specific requirements of the project – Individual team members are not required to have knowledge of every detail for the team to achieve its goals.

Agile software development in accordance with SCRUM

A structured and methodical approach is especially important for software development in sectors that demand innovation. basysKom projects consistently implement the core principles of agile software development – customer orientation, flexibility, communication, simplicity, and efficiency – all monitored by a certified SCRUM master.
